Snow in South Africa – first impressions of Kruger and Golden Gate

The amount of game drives, lectures, site visits and meetings with people squeezed into two weeks at Kruger National Park was incredible, but definitely worth it. With large amounts of information given to us and many memories, including close encounters with Hyenas, 2 leopard sightings and many flocks it was time to put all this excitement into work at our parks.

My arrival at Golden Gate Highlands National Park was however delayed by 2 days due to snowfall that caused road closure and travel delays throughout South Africa. This was definitely not what I expected when coming to Africa! When I finally arrived at Golden Gate I was greeted by a very cold chill in the air, snow on the mountains and very friendly staff. It was nice to finally settle down, unpack my bags and be able to begin to put into perspective some of the things we learnt at Kruger about the parks, people and programs.
