Kruger training
On July 12th, three new volunteers began their journey on the GVI/South African National Parks internship with a two week training session in the renowned Kruger National Park. Starting in Skukuza, the trip began on a high, with nightly patrols from spotted hyenas! We were also thankful to be joined by staff from SANParks Head Office, who shared a wealth of expertise to orientate the group to the organisation. Highlights of the first week included an interactive session on snakes and reptiles, as well as a glimpse into the Kids in Parks programme which GVI interns often get involved in. From Skukuza we moved to Satara, stopping off at a neighbouring school on the way and getting to grips with the South African Education system. The group took part on first aid training and we had some brilliant sightings, including leopard, caracal and a feisty honey badger who paid an early morning visit to raid our bin, making short work of some leftover pork chops!! Our final destination was Olifants, with it's stunning view making it the perfect location to reflect on the training. A big thank you to all the guest speakers/P&C/SANParks staff who contributed to an amazing couple of weeks and best of luck to Joris, Alison and Danielle for their internship.
