NATIONAL ARBOR WEEK 1 - 7 SEPT

So we are in the middle of National Arbour Week in South Africa and in South Africa, Arbor Day was first celebrated in 1983. The event captured the imagination of people who recognized the need for raising awareness of the value of trees. Trees are used for building material, food, medicine, and simple scenic beauty, trees play a vital role in the health and well-being of our communities and offcourse helps with combating global warming. In 1999 the government extended Arbour day to National Arbor Week. From 1 to 7 September every year, schools, businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate in community "greening" events to improve the health and beauty of the local environment and propose a green future for South Africa.

Every year there is a different "Tree of the year" and this year it is the Fever Tree (Acacia xanthophloea) or Koorsboom in Afrikaans.

So do your part and plant at least one tree this week and help green the globe! Every tree helps!
