Langebaan's Lagoon Rescue Team - West Coast National Park

The Langebaan lagoon is calm. It does not know what’s about to hit it. Pete and Shirley, GVI’s on marine patrol. The boat flies above the waves as we search for trouble and lawbreakers. We pass three of the nearby islands, named Marcus, Malgus and Jutton, each with incredible numbers of sea birds; gannets, penguins, cormorants fill them.

We see a seal in the water, tearing away at lunch. We are also involved in a marine rescue of an unexpected kind. 3 condoms, inflated and floating along the surface, obviously in distress. We pick them up, before deflating them for later disposal. We can’t have those things hurting wildlife, such as whales, seals or birds. With trouble removed we head back to shore. Langebaan is safe for another day.
